Weekly Update

It was an exciting week filled with action, adventure, and anticipation....well, okay it wasn't, but I thought I would update on the week. It began with orientation for new students, at which time I was on a panel of the second years to answer questions. Yep, sitting up in front of very many strangers and I handled it beautifully. I'm not yet totally comfortable in front of a crowd, but have come a long way and understand now why they said at our orientation last year how we would see changes in ourselves as a result of this graduate program. The downside to Monday was when we all found out that the comps we thought we would be taking in November are really on October 13. So it's gotten a little stressful worrying about maintaining the course load I have now with also studying for comps. B/c if we don't pass comps, we don't graduate. So I will be spending my next few weeks in study groups. However, the part I am trying to keep in mind is that comps mean no thesis. And while I love to write, it's nice to not have to write yet another huge paper. Mid-week I had cable installed...my parents' birthday gift to me! It's AWESOME! It was like I lived in pre-television times and now have access to this glorious invention! It will make the weekends much nicer during study breaks. Plus, I get SoapNet so I can catch up on all of the soaps I am missing. :) It also meant I now have new internet and could get rid of yet another frustration. I also found out some big news last night, but don't feel right posting it on my blog, as it's not my news to tell. The excitement of today was that I drove home for the weekend, which was not planned. Originally my family was coming to spend the weekend with me, but instead I ended up coming here. Which meant that I surprised my boyfriend...something I am not able to do very often, as he is not easily surprised. Except I scared him b/c he was in the garage by himself when I appeared. I started talking before I appeared but apparently I didn't wait long enough b/c he still jumped and yelled out and was scared. But he also had a huge smile on his face at seeing me, which was worth it. But sadly, due to comps I won't be home again for more weeks than I care to think. But I have cable now, so it's okay. :) AAANNNNDDDDD...that's my week.
