Flexibility is key
This week was a very good one. I was able to start all of my counseling groups and am now on my way towards the 20 required hours. Since four of my groups are at the elementary school level, I began reconsidering my future job search. My first choice is to get a job in an independent school, either at the 8-12 level or the K-12 level. However, if I start in the public schools I am thinking I may want elementary instead of high school. As much as I want to work with adolescents, thereare so many academic-oriented roles that counselors are given and very seldom is the emphasis on counseling. So I may go the elementary public school route while I work on my LPC and then counsel adolescent females once I am a LPC and find a private practice. That fits into my dreams of a family as well, b/c I will have the same holidays and breaks as my children and can do private practice part-time when I am staying home with my children until they are school-age. That's always been my plan, I just hadn't seriously considered the public elementary level. And as a bonus, I can decorate my office with Care Bears! ;) So I definitely have some career plans in place...but they are flexible since I don't know where the job openings will be or when the family will begin.
I worked extra this week (and in previous weeks) so that I can take this coming Thursday off and go be with my family/boyfriend & his family for my BIRTHDAY! So, the 26 year old dream didn't pan out, but there's nothing I can do about that at this point. However, I am still working on my career dream, so I'm not totally at a loss. Only 5 days left of 26!
Last night, I went walking with one of my good friends here, as we try to do weekly. We also went to dinner at Boston Beanery where the food was quite yummy. She even treated me to dinner which is always a nice unexpected surprise. Unfortunately, my stomach has not been feeling so great lately , so it acted up when I got home.
Today is my very first college football game. With the exception of a college I attended for one year, I have successfully gone to universities that do not have football teams. Even the school I am currently attending for graduate school has no football team. So students go to the nearby big school to cheer for their football team. My high school was the same- no football team. I have been to high school football games with friends (and even briefly tried dating a football player to no avail- huge disaster but good learning experience) but I have never personally been to a college stadium and watched a football game. So today will be my 1st foray into the world of college football. AND it is a big game b/c the team is playing another good team who is a big rival. Hopefully my stomach will settle down so that I can enjoy the experience. I don't own any maroon or orange clothing, so I am going to stop by Wal-Mart and see if I can find some team spirit apparel. Then later on, a friend of a friend is supposed to be performing at a local bar... so if that pans out and I am not too tired I will stop by that for awhile.
I need to work on a test, study for another test and comps and organize some session notes for school...but that's all going to wait until tomorrow. I'm gonna have some fun! ;)
